Title Sequence Animation: Blue World Bound

This project involved animating a title sequence for a hypothetical film. The sequence was designed to be visually captivating, establish a specific mood, and deliver key information (credits) through typography.

Premise

Blue World Bound follows 18-year-old Margaret Hayes in Burlington, Vermont. It’s 1949, and the government has just mandated that her city be the first of many to relocate to a new underwater civilization due to severe overpopulation. Leading up to her assigned moving day, Margaret accidentally intercepts secret government correspondence meant for her father, one of Vermont’s senators. She begins to uncover the sinister reality behind the selections for underwater relocation: the government plans to create a ‘better’ society, starting over with only the ‘best’ of cities, leaving the rest behind for good. With Burlington’s departure date approaching, she must decide whether to keep quiet and protect her father’s reputation, or speak up and risk it all.

Design Concept

This title sequence seeks to metaphorically convey that an upbeat world is being gradually overtaken by water. It does so in a poetic manner, as paper vintage elements, specifically images of people, get submerged or replaced by water. This represents the government’s mandate to relocate Burlington to an underwater civilization, as well as their sinister motives to create a “better” version of society.
